Computer Case FAQ. What are fan ports?
In most computer cases fan ports number between one to five. It would be extremely rare to find a computer case without at least one fan port. Fan ports are used to either evacuate warm air out of the computer case or to let cool air into the computer case. Typical sizes for fan ports are 80mm, 90mm, and 120mm. For each of these sizes a fan of the same corresponding size may be installed, depending on the application. Some people who have applications that require a cool atmosphere might install several fans into their case. Other applications might not require fans at all. For example, in a cool office case fans may not be necessary as the ordinary ventilation through the fan ports may be sufficient. Below is a picture of a computer case detailing the rear fan port:
